The Doctoral Degree Programme in Education aims to train high-level educational researchers to be well versed in both theory and practice. Specifically,

Knowledge:

  • Students will become knowledgeable in the broad issues of education and in the skills, knowledge, and problems within their specialization area;
  • Students will develop an inquiring and critical approach to issues and possible solutions to problems in education;
  • Students will be familiar with the research frontier of the discipline as well as important trends from a scientific and social perspective;
  • Students will have deep insight into and be able to assess the appropriateness and application of theories and methods that form the basis for his or her specialization;
  • Students will be able to contribute to the development of new knowledge, new theories, methods, and interpretations in his or her specialization.

Skills:

  • Students will develop competencies in the broad issues of conducting and evaluating research in education, and develop the skills needed to solve research problems in their chosen field;
  • Students will be able to act autonomously in the planning and implementation of research;
  • Students will have a comprehensive understanding of scientific methods and techniques applicable to their own research;
  • Students will demonstrate originality in the application of knowledge, together with a practical understanding of how research and enquiry are used to create and interpret knowledge in their field;
  • Students will be able to present and discuss research and research findings in speech and writing and in dialogue with the academic community and society in general in regional, national, and international contexts;
  • Students will be able to assist supervisor’s teaching in the discipline in which they are specialized.
