Objectives

The Master of Philosophy in Curriculum and Instruction Programme aims at helping students acquire knowledge of the theories and techniques of curriculum development from different curriculum perspectives; explore models of teaching and learning; reflect upon issues regarding the commonplaces of curriculum: subject matter, teaching, learning, and the milieu; conduct general or subject-based curriculum and instruction research; and most significant of all, put theory into practice. It is designed for teachers, educators and educational administrators who are interested in these fundamental education issues.

Programme Admission Requirements and Selection Criteria (without concentration) (CCI)

  1. Obtained a competitive bachelor’s degree GPA
  2. Obtained a bachelor degree from a regionally, nationally or internationally recognized (teacher training) university
  3. Applicants that have obtained a relevant education-related or subject-based (e.g., Science, Information and Communication Technology, Chinese Language, Mathematics, English Language, Art, Music, and PE, among others) bachelor degree are preferred
  4. Applicants that have research experiences, teaching experiences, and English proficiency are preferred

  2. Possess English language proficiency (IELTS ≥ 7.0; TOEFL ≥ 95; TEM4/8 ≥ 75; CET ≥ 600)

2. Educational Administration (EA)

Objectives

The Master of Philosophy in Educational Administration Programme is designed primarily for those interested in learning the theory, practice and research of educational administration. A combination of theory and practice helps students develop leadership skills and enables them to cope effectively with the complex demands of current education situation.

Programme Admission Requirements and Selection Criteria

  1. Possess English language proficiency
  2. Applicants that have obtained a relevant bachelor’s degree (e.g., Teacher Education, Administration, Sociology, Policy and Government Studies) from a regionally, nationally, or internationally recognized university are preferred
  3. Obtained a competitive bachelor’s degree GPA
  4. Applicants with work experience or that have held leadership roles in the education sector are preferred
  5. Have received strong recommendation letters

3. Early Childhood Education and Child Development (ECD)

Objectives:

In accordance with international trends in the field of early childhood education, the primary objective of the Master of Philosophy in Early Childhood Education and Child Development is to upgrade professional knowledge and research competence of those interested in early childhood education, especially the early childhood practitioners in the Macao SAR. It also aims to enrich those who provide services for children by enhancing their understanding of young children’s development, learning, and teaching methodologies.

4. Educational Psychology (EPY)

Objectives

The Master of Philosophy in Educational Psychology Programme aims at training students to become professional educational psychologists in Macau, greater China, and beyond. Through innovative teaching methods, the various courses in the programme comprehensively deliver theories and research findings relevant to the fields of psychology and education. Students simultaneously enhance their understanding of educational psychology by thinking critically about educational issues from a psychological perspective. This training results in students obtaining the ability to conduct independent research in educational psychology.

Objectives

The Master of Education in Physical Education and Sport Studies Programme aims to offer students the opportunity to deeper their knowledge about and research skills in physical education and sport. Students will use this knowledge to conduct interdisciplinary research that can be practically applied to various educational settings.

Objectives

The Master of Philosophy in School Counselling Programme aims at preparing students to become competent and professional counsellors in a variety of educational settings. Students graduating from this programme will be able to serve different clientele such as children and youths, teachers, and parents on a one-to-one or on a group basis. The components of this programme entail both theory and practice with an emphasis on school counselling techniques and services that are equally critical for successful counselling in real world situations.

B. Master of Science

1. Data Science (Analytics in Teaching and Learning)

Objectives

The Master of Science in Data Science Programme features a multi-disciplinary curriculum that draws on insights across a range of disciplines and prepare students to be able to extract information from real-world data sets using the latest tools and analytical methods as well as to interpret and communicate their findings in ways that change people’s minds and behaviour.

Specialization Admission Requirements and Section Criteria

  1. Applicants must hold a recognised bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
  2. GPA 2.8 (75 out of 100) or above in the Bachelor’s degree studies.
  3. Preference is given to those who majored in education and possess a quantitative background (statistics, STEM, etc). Students with prior research experience, including research publication, assistantship, scholarship and grants, will be evaluated favorably.
  4. English proficiency should be in line with that stipulated in the UM Admission Guidelines Governing Master’s Degree and Postgraduate Certificate/Diploma Programmes.

1. Postgraduate Certificate in Education (Evening)

Aims of the Programme

The Postgraduate Certificate of Education (one-year) Programme gives priority to:
1. Anyone who aspire to work in education sector as a qualified teacher, or
2. In-service teachers who does not received professional training.

The programme therefore strives to equip students with relevant knowledge of teaching and helps them apply educational theories in their actual teaching. It aims to improve students’ professional knowledge and skills in the field of education and to help them learn from their own practice. This programme will be continuously revised according to the development of society in order to keep up with the rapid developments of both school and society.
